Slow Cooker - Self Cleaning Hack

Cleaning your slow cooker is easier than you think. When your slow cooker needs a deep clean, try out our easy and hands free way to get it done.

If you're anything like us, you use your slow cooker a lot. Just the thought of a family party or Sunday football gets us excited for all the dip possibilities we can make. Unfortunately, the downside to our favorite kitchen appliance is the ring of built-up scum that settles into the slow cooker over time. Slow cooker cleaning can even be more stubborn than cleaning pots and pans.

Luckily, we found slow cooker hacks from YouTube channel Life Should Cost Less that makes your slow cooker clean itself! And even more amazingly, it only takes three ingredients and less than 30 seconds of scrubbing. Try this out now and your clean slow cooker will look shiny and new!

What You Need

  • Water

  • Vinegar

  • Baking Soda

  • Sponge

  • Dish soap

Step 1: Add Water

To start, fill the slow cooker with water. Make sure you add enough so that the waterline rises above the last of the food baked onto the surface.

Step 2: Add Vinegar

Next, add in distilled white vinegar. Check out the video mentioned above about how to clean a slow cooker to see how much you should add.

Step 3: Add Baking Soda

Now is the fun part of your slow cooker cleaning! Slowly sprinkle baking soda into the liquid. As the powder falls beneath the surface, a chemical reaction will cause it to fizz. Add the baking soda just a little bit at a time so the bubbles can settle.

Step 4: Let Sit

Leave this mixture on low heat, covered, for four hours or overnight.

Step 5: Cool and Clean

Finally, let the liquid cool for about an hour and clean out the slow cooker as you normally would. You will notice that the caked-on food will slide right out with very little effort on your end.

O ou've got to try this out!O
